"One of the best decisions I made as the founding Executive
Director of a brand new BID was to hire an experienced
and talented company to provide "Clean
Team" and "Safety Guide" ambassadors for
our new district. As the first Business Improvement District
in the State of South Carolina , we had to do things right.
The Brantley / Block by Block team hit the ground running just
months after our BID started operations and immediately
made a major impact on our mid - size downtown.
In the first year of our BID, crime is down 25% overall
and up to 90% for nuisance crimes
such as public inebriation. We were recognized as
Downtown of the Month in May, 2003 by the International
Downtown Association due in no small part
by their efforts.
Perhaps most importantly, we have seen over
$70 million in new private investment in our BID
just since they started providing services to us.
This is more investment in our downtown than has been
seen in more than a decade and a testimony to
the improvement of the quality of the environment
in downtown Columbia as a destination for work,pleasure,
