Block
by Block furthers relationship with the Old Pasadena Management
District
May 14, 2004
After evaluation of proposed vendors
Block by Block was selected by the Old Pasadena Management
District to be the new provider of uniformed security services
throughout the three parking facilities under its management,
which are the DeLacey, Schoolhouse and Marriott Garages.
Block by Block will focus on providing brand recognition
and standardization to both the Parking Garage Security
Program and the Safety Guide program, which Block by Block
assumed management of in January 2004. Brand recognition
will include moving the Security Officers in the parking
facilities into uniforms similar to those worn by the Safety
Guides. The purpose of this is to easily associate both
programs as being products of the Old Pasadena Management
District. Standardization will occur as Security Officers
are cross trained to assume the roles of Safety Guides
and vice versa.
An in depth training program will be delivered to the Security
Officers of the Parking Facilities that prepares them to
deal with the hundreds of people that patronize the parking
facilities for business, shopping, dining or the ever popular
nightlife of Colorado Blvd. Security Officers will not
only provide a watchful presence and visible deterrent,
they will also serve as a resource for directions, information
or assistance for patrons the minute they step out of their
vehicle.
The Parking Facility Security Officers will fall under
the direction of Program Manager, Steffany Lohn, who will
be responsible for administrating both programs.
About the Old Pasadena Management District
The Old Pasadena Management District (OPMD) is a non-profit
business organization that creatively plans, manages and
develops Old Pasadena as a unique, authentic and vibrant
downtown experience. The OPMD currently contracts with
the City of Pasadena to manage the Old Pasadena Business
Improvement District (BID). The BID enhances the basic
City services by funding district-wide security, marketing
and maintenance programs to provide a clean, safe and vibrant
downtown experience. All operations are financed through
annual tax assessments on privately owned commercial property.
The Old Pasadena BID was formed in 2000 and will be considered
for renewal in 2005.
This organization is led by a cross section of Old Pasadena
stakeholders and managed by professional staff. This includes
merchants, tenants, property owners, residents and city
management, led by 23 volunteer directors. Geographic boundaries
of the Business Improvement District (BID) are Pasadena
Avenue to the west, Arroyo Parkway to the east, Del Mar
Boulevard to the south and Walnut Street to the north.
The district is a 22-block National Historic District and
includes two historic public parks. |
