Over-the-Rhine
Contract Awarded to Block by Block
February 25, 2003

The City of Cincinnati (Department of Public Service) selected
Block by Block to provide an Enhanced Cleanliness and Hospitality
Program for Over-the-Rhine, beginning March 24, 2003. Over-the-Rhine
represents about 60 square blocks and the contract will include
Environmental Maintenance, Special Projects, and Hospitality
services and will employ 1 Operations Manager, 2 Team Leaders,
2 Special Project Team Members, and 14 Clean and Hospitality
Ambassadors with above market salary and benefits, representing
757 weekly hours of service.
The Clean and Hospitality Ambassadors will be responsible
for improving the outward appearance of sidewalks, alleys,
and public right of ways as they focus on litter patrol, removal
of graffiti, weed control and removal, and other exterior
cleaning. The Ambassadors will provide pedestrian assistance
in the form of information regarding Over-the-Rhine, to include
directions, attractions, current entertainment, hotel and
restaurant, and other services available in Over-the-Rhine.
The Ambassadors will utilize manual cleaning methods as well
as equipment designed for urban cleaning. The Ambassadors
will be linked via two-way radios to provide rapid deployment
and responsiveness to cleaning and hospitality issues.
The addition of Over-the-Rhine makes this the seventh improvement
district and first contract with city government in which
Block by Block provides management and ambassador services.
The other improvement districts that are served by Block by
Block are in Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN, Cincinnati, OH,
Columbus, OH, Columbia, SC, and Des Moines, IA.
