Duluth Downtown Waterfront District Chooses Block by Block

The Downtown Duluth Waterfront District has selected Block by Block to be the provider of Management and Staffing for their new Safety and Cleaning Ambassador team, which will commence services as of December 27, 2005.

A staff of approximately five to seven ambassadors will be easily identified in their blue jackets and bright safety green shirts as they deliver services to the fifty plus square blocks of Duluth. Safety Ambassadors will be responsible for patrolling both on the sidewalks of the downtown core as well as in the extensive skywalk system through downtown. Cleaning Ambassadors will be responsible for improving the level of service that improve the overall appearance of the downtown core to include litter collection, weed eradication, graffiti removal, power washing, snow removal near street corners, cleaning of public fixtures and any other special projects that improve the overall appearance of downtown Duluth.

More importantly both Safety and Cleaning Ambassadors will be trained in all aspects of serving downtown Duluth to include specific training on dealing with the homeless, the transit system, Duluth City Police Department and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. To augment Duluth specific training the team will receive training dealing with the delivery of customer service and public assistance to effectively train the staff to fulfill the ambassador function.
