| Block
by Block to be New Provider for the Dayton Downtown Partnership
April
1, 2005
In
response to many issues regarding Downtown perception, which
has stemmed from the Downtown Public Transit Center , The
Safety Task Force of the Downtown Dayton Partnership has taken
proactive measures to address the issues of safety and cleanliness.
In taking such measures the Downtown Dayton Partnership has
selected Block by Block from the responses received from potential
vendors, to manage it is initial Cleaning Ambassador Program.
The first phase of this program is designed to deliver an
immediate need to the transit center, which is located near
the four block area of Fourth and Main Streets.
The
amount of pedestrian traffic, specifically juveniles who use
public busses for transportation to and from school, has created
negative publicity thereby affecting public perceptions of
downtown.
Through
the leadership of the Downtown Dayton Partnership a co-operative
plan has been implemented in conjunction with the city of
Dayton , the Regional Transit Authority, Dayton Public Schools
and Montgomery County . The Dayton Police and the Montgomery
County Sheriff's office have added dedicated officers to the
area and the Downtown Dayton Partnership has added the Safety
and Cleaning Ambassador Program.
Block
by Block's Clean and Safety Ambassador Program will dramatically
increase the perceptions of safety and cleanliness of the
service area in Downtown Dayton by adding an additional presence
that can address minor offenses and observe and report issues
that are necessary to be addressed by other agencies. The
cleaning program will improve the aesthetic perceptions of
Downtown Dayton's transit center, thereby increasing the perception
of safety.
Safety
Ambassadors of the Downtown Dayton Partnership can be observed
patrolling the services area either on foot or bicycle creating
a watchful presence and visible deterrent of unwanted activity.
Cleaning Ambassadors supplement the services provided by the
City of Dayton Public Works Department to include litter removal,
weed eradication, removal of graffiti tags, power washing,
cleaning of public fixtures and any other service to help
ensure a well maintained area within downtown Dayton .
